AdRail’s patented film and installation application system was invented in 2000 by EHC Global, the world’s leading escalator parts manufacturer and provider. AdRail is a temporary film that is applied to the existing black rubber or plastic handrail on an escalator. Our product does not change, obstruct, modify, alter, or impact the existing warrantees on escalator systems. AdRail can be easily applied to any escalator handrails in convention centers, hotels, arenas & stadiums, airports & transit hubs, malls and any other public facility that has escalators worldwide. AdRail has been installed for media and event sponsorship campaigns on escalator handrails for top national brands in the US such as Amazon, Meta,TD Bank, Intel, Sprint, and MasterCard, to name a few.

Flash forward to the start of the “Global Pandemic” in March of 2020, AdRail pivoted some of it’s focus to escalator safety as cleaning and disinfecting methods for the traveling public.

It was observed that escalator riders were reluctant to hold on to handrails because of germ association and bad public perception. Due to the pandemic, this concern has increased, hence increasing the liability even further.

AdRail’s Safety Objectives

AdRail is installed on a minimum of a quarterly schedule. Installation involves cleaning of interior escalator mechanics, and, weekly cleaning of the exterior handrails using approved disinfecting solutions. AdRail field personnel to train facility’s janitorial contractors on the above exterior film cleaning methods for increased cleaning frequency.

Additional Facility Benefits – Since the 1920’s abstract graphics on handrails were used as speed and motion indicators helping people to judge the speed, motion, and direction of the moving stairs. In 2013 several major safety studies proved that using AdRail’s patented printed advertisement film as a point of reference reduces trips and falls. AdRail is approved by ASME A17.1 national codes committee as a safety benefit for escalator passengers.

Proven Facts

In the 1920’s using dots proved adding graphics helps passengers judge speed & direction resulting in a more natural step on and off the escalator.
A TÜV study on AdRail in 2003 proved that when touching the smooth coated surface, passengers felt it to be “clean”, of which encouraged the passengers to hold on more when riding the escalator.
Several major safety studies prove the reduction of trips and falls resulting in AdRail ASME A17.1 national code approval in 2013.
In a year long study at Chicago O’Hare Airport, over 90 million people rode on escalators with AdRail film with zero accidents or equipment shutdowns documented. This study proved that 70% more people held on to the handrail, also determining that 83% had a more natural step on, and 94% had a more natural step off.
In 2019 the global certification agency Liftinstituut’s month-long study concluded that because of the AdRail graphics the passengers were not distracted, took a safer step on and off, and held on to the handrails more frequently, awarding AdRail USA their Certificate of Conformance.
A study conducted by Kimberly-Clark for Men’s Health Magazine rated escalator handrails as the “3rd dirtiest public surface”. Our germ-repelling film encourages more people to hold on to the handrail, thus reducing falls.
